Steve MacKay

Steve MacKay
(Melbourne Based)
Producer

Melbourne-based Steve MacKay is one of a few rising star producers in the Australian alternative rock scene.
Steve’s work in the studio with Twelve Foot Ninja has drawn him the most recent attention. His passion is geared toward alternative hard rock, metal, progressive, electronic, acoustic, dub (overall experimental) but he has also been an in-demand musician and songwriter in the pop world.

In his early twenties, Steve was hired by UK producer Eliot Kennedy (Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Spice Girls, Take That, Atomic Kitten) to play on Delta Goodrem’s debut album, ‘Innocent Eyes’ (highest selling album for a female artist in Australian history) and he subsequently toured with Delta as her guitarist on promotional tours throughout the US, UK, Europe, and South America – performing at the ARIA Awards, MTV Music Awards, The Footy Show, and various international TV & radio programs.

Steve has written and produced tracks for commercial artists Christine Anu, Delta Goodrem, Brian McFadden.

Steve’s most impressive, but least known, musical achievement is the sale of over 1 million copies of ‘Simply Guitar’ – a guitar tuition DVD that he wrote and featured in. Steve has fast become Australia’s biggest individual exporter of a music tuition product!

Quotes about Steve MacKay:

“Steve is a great bloke and an excellent player, I’m just happy he’s in Australia so I can keep my job!”
Rob Harris – Guitarist / Songwriter (Jamiroquai)

“Steve has one of the most imaginative playing ability I have come across. He turned chords around and added voicings and notes I had never heard before, that just brought everything he played on to life. I look forward to the next time we can work together”.
Eliot Kennedy – Songwriter / Producer (Celine Dion, Spice Girls, Bryan Adams, Atomic Kitten)

“His playing is impeccable, his ideas are creative and his brain is from outer space, a winning combination for me”
Robbie Adams – Sound Engineer (Killing Heidi, Delta Goodrem, Atomic Kitten)

“My musical journey so far has been a diverse one to say the least! I have no real affinity toward commercial pop music. It just sort of happened that I was working in that world. I often felt like a spy gathering intelligence to take back to my home planet. I don’t mind working that genre but it lacks the darkness and dynamic extreme that smashes peoples heads off.” Steve MacKay

Testimonial:

“Studio Woo have had the pleasure of working with Producer Steve Mackay on a number of fantastic TVC soundtracks now and he is always our first point of call when we need a recording, whether it be an original score or a re-record.  Steve is great to work with, he is passionate about what he does and obviously is extremely talented, more than anything he is fast! He always understands the brief, is a great communicator and gets you what you need in a matter of days.  He has always delivered us with tracks that are on-brief, sound amazing and that our clients love.

Steve has produced a number of TVC tracks for us now including a re-record of Joan Jett’s “Hit Me With your Best Shot” for a Just Jeans 30 sec TVC as well as a killer grunge rock score for the latest Lovable TVC, featuring Jen Hawkins, that is due to be released later in August.”
Nikki Jones – Senior Account Manager, Studio Woo
